“Dear Arthur,” Merlin addressed Arthur who wore a long frown. “The once and future king, is something just to make people gather under your flag, nothing more.”
“I don’t like the sound of it though.” Arthur stood and paced the hidden room, and his steps resounded to the far wall. “I don’t have to like anything we are doing here from start to end.”
“Just remember our oath,” Merlin said with sober tones, as he walked to place a hand over Arthur’s shoulder, stopping his pacing. “The Chronicler said we have to lay the ground for the one to come from both above and below.”
“But I never wanted to rule anything.” Arthur sighed and sat on the nearest chair. “We were supposed to bring the sword back, not rule under its banner.”
“Still, we are bound to fulfill our duty.” Merlin sat Facing Arthur. “The one to come will need the sword, and the Chronicler said that past this point of time the sword disappears, we had to come for it now.”
“And now we are locked out of Agartha.” Arthur scoffed.
“Yes, the trick Morgan did was abysmal to say the least.” Merlin nodded. “But now she is out of our way, swayed over by The Others.”
“You are a purple,” Arthur said as he pointed his finger at Merlin. “You can live forever with your magic, always at the same age, but what about me?”
“We discussed this.” Merlin sighed a long hot sigh. “I will bind you to the sword, so even though your body might die, you will live on.”
“Till the day comes and we are called back.” Arthur laughed a short barking laugh. “You keep saying that, but it could be hundreds of years till The Chosen One calls on us.”
“Even if it is thousands of years.” Merlin held the shoulders of Arthur firmly. “We wait.”
“Yes, for the once and future savior.”
“And we fulfill our duties.”
