“My feet are freezing,” Malik complained. “Do we have to stay till the last minute?”
“Yes,” shouted Sarah with glee. “This is when the magic lights go off.”
“I can’t feel my nose,” Ethan told Sarah, then he added after rubbing his whole face, “I think it will fall off.”
“You are both annoying,” Sarah scoffed. “It happens only once a year.”
“But it is very cold.” Malik jumped from one foot to the other, “Can’t we see the lights from the windows on the dormitory?”
“No,” Sarah shook her head vigorously. “It is not the same, we can only see part of the sky above Nafoura from there.”
“Can we at least get something hot to drink from the supplies’ hall?” Ethan rubbed his hands miserably.
“Can’t it wait for another five minutes?” Sarah pleaded both of them. “The new year and the lights start in only five minutes.”
Malik hopped around as Ethan started a strange dance from foot to foot, while Sarah just stared at the corner where the Keeper sat with the big balls of magic lights, which he will launch to the sky in a few minutes.
Ethan tripped and almost fell, so, Malik started to laugh.
This caused Sarah to hit him with an ice ball.
Soon all three were running after each other throwing ice balls at each other and laughing the entire time.
The familiar sound of a magic light being launched reached them with its famous whistle.
All stopped in their tracks, and above them the sky exploded in a thousand lights, in all the hues of the rainbow.
It was worth the cold and the wait, the three friends huddled as the Keeper sent one magic light after another, announcing the new year.
Happy New Year From Everybody in Agartha, wish you were here.
