“So, the chase begins, but why do we have to take them with us?” Stephan whispered to Violet as he looked to the three other Agarthans.
“Because we need the help, anyone who is willing to face him is welcome.” Violet held the tracker which was made to look like a gas lamp, in an attempt to conceal it from the upper worlders.
“He is just a purple, like all other purples, he has his known weaknesses.” Stephan insisted.
“Nope, I am a powerful purple, and I can say it out right, he is a hundred times more powerful than me.” Violet snorted. “Even having an entire team of purples was not enough to capture him three thousand years ago.”
“Maybe I am rusty on his history then, so, enlighten me.” Stephan scoffed.
“He managed to lead a a group of rebels to take on the most powerful kingdom in Agartha, stripped the black empress of her soul using the staff of death.”Violet took a deep breath.
“Then he waged war on the entire world, bonded all the tribes to himself, and he was rumored to have ruled this empire for more than a thousand years.” Violet took a long breath. “He was so famous and powerful, that his reputation reached the surface world, and some of the kings took his name for their own.”
Violet stopped to face Stephan. “This is when the rebellion reached him, and twelve of the most powerful purples failed to take him alive. It was presumed that he died in the encounter.”
“But he is here, now.” Stephan said matter of factually.
“A mystery that we will have to solve as well.” Violet moved again following the pulses from the tracker.
The tracker sent pulses directly to her mind, giving her hints of directions, smells, sights and feelings that the killer experienced while walking these streets.
She had to stop every once in a while, as the pulses grew intense, and clouded her own ability to process and assimilate her own reality.
“Dear Violet, I can take it on from you for some time.” Yara who was tailing the party said in a clear voice. “I can help in this chase.”
“When I can’t sustain it anymore, I will be more than happy to give it over, lady Yara.” Violet answered in the same clear voice.
The chase went on for hours, and eventually Violet did give the tracker over to Yara, who commented on the device upon using it. “Interesting, he became even darker over the time. This is fun.”
Yara led the chase away from Whitechapel, and at some point out of London altogether.
“Yara, you have to surrender your will to the device.” John stopped and called all of them to stop as well. “Our prey is not the type to shy away from people and go hide in the woods.”
“Are trying to blame me for this malfunctioning junk?” Yara turned to John, and her body started to grow.
“Lady Yara, please stop. It is my mistake.” Violet advanced slowly on Yara, who snarled and bared huge teeth. “I am the only one in the group trained to use the tracker, and yes, you are right, it doesn’t function as you might think it should.”
Yara returned back to normal size, and faced John who didn’t move an inch. “See, the device was not good anyway. Not my mistake, it was Violet’s.” And she snorted.
“Whatever, we need to go back to London.” Dorian pulled his pocket watch. “I thought you said that he would strike again tonight.” He sighed. “It is night, and we are running out of time.”
“I have a solution.” John said in a low rumbling voice, then he started to transform.
His entire form elongated, his back bent at a painful degree, and his limbs grew to four times their natural size.
“You mastered a fifth form.” Violet looked at the creature that stood in John’s place. “A wyvern no less.”
“Fascinating, but what use is this form to our predicament?” Dorian looked more bored than fascinated.
“Wyverns are ten times faster than the fastest horse.” Yara jumped on the neck of the best in one move, which made Stephan to whistle, as her dress must have weighed at least fifty pounds.
The moment the last of them was on top “John” the wyvern, he bolted.
They had to cling to his back horns for dear life, as he traveled at an excess of two hundred miles an hour.
“Don’t change back.” Yara shouted in John’s ear as they were entering London. “I will glamour you, people will think that you are an open carriage pulled by four horses.”
They arrived back to the point Yara took the tracker from Violet, and stopped.
John slank away in a nearby alley, and came back covered in tattered clothing.
“That will not do.” Yara advanced on him critically. “Here, let me help with this.”
The fabrics mended themselves on John’s body, and in less than a minute.
As John stood with his clothes restored, Yara said, “Well, I did some fairy Godmother stuff back in Germany. Not as fun as I thought it would be, specially if you take glass shoes in consideration.” She sighed. “Nasty business all in all.”
The chase resumed, and within another hour, they stood in front of a newly painted house at the edge of the Whitechapel area.
“So, this is it, the lair of a three thousand years old killer. Presumably the most purple in known history.” Yara walked around the corner of the building and back again. “But red house? This is too garish even for my tastes.”
“This is it.” Violet let go of the tracker in Stephan’s hand and stood shivering from some moments.
“I assume there are all kinds of hidden traps and spells by the door, right?” Dorian touched the bricks of the building with the tip of his hand, then after some moments, he removed it. “Even the dragon doesn’t want to go in there.” He laughed.
“What next?” Stephan faced Violet. Yara came closer to them and said, “Let me do the honors honey, you need some time to recover.”
They all stepped back, as Violet slid down and sat on the ground.
Yara started to say something under her breath, then waved here arms three times at the door of the building.
“We can pass now, but be warned, you will all feel a terrible weakness afterwards.” Yara held her hands in the air pointing to the building.
“Are we ready?” John looked to Violet, who nodded and stood up.
“Then let’s finish this chase, this ends here, and tonight.” John reached for the handle of the door.
